چکیده
Flexoelectric polarization, which is caused by symmetry breaking in a distortion of material, was investigated liquid crystalline elastomers composed wedge-shaped mesogens prepared cross-linking under horseshoe-shaped deformation. X-ray diffractometry suggested that splay along the depth direction induced pseudo-isotropic phase. While almost no electric charge observed smectic A phase, an polarization due to flexoelectric effect appeared and reached −1367 pC/mm2 We tentatively conclude macroscopic emerged fixed

Dynamics of Liquid Crystalline Elastomers
We developed a full non-local model to nematic elastomers in terms of the displacement and the tensor order parameter. We consider both elastic and nematic contributions. This model allows spatial variation of the order parameter field. We also get the dynamics equation using variation principle applied the Lagrangian and the Rayleigh dissipation function. By using small approximation, we get s...
متن کاملApplications of Liquid Crystalline Elastomers
This chapter focuses on recent developments in the field of liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) that bring these materials closer to the world of real applications, concentrating on their actuation properties. First, we briefly introduce different LCE materials that show actuation behavior and explain how they can be synthesized. In the second part, we focus on materials in which a shape chang...
متن کاملOrder and Disorder in Liquid-Crystalline Elastomers
Order and frustration play an important role in liquid-crystalline polymer networks (elastomers). The first part of this review is concerned with elastomers in the nematic state and starts with a discussion of nematic polymers, the properties of which are strongly determined by the anisotropy of the polymer backbone. Neutron scattering and X-ray measurements provide the basis for a description ...
متن کاملNonlinear relative rotations in liquid crystalline elastomers.
Relative rotations between the coupled subsystems of a complex material can become crucial in continuum modeling. In this paper the authors focus on the macroscopic description of side-chain liquid crystalline elastomers, where relative rotations between the polymer network and the director orientation associated with the liquid crystalline component are decisive. They extend the known expressi...
متن کاملIsotropic-nematic transition in liquid-crystalline elastomers.
In liquid-crystalline elastomers, the nematic order parameter and the induced strain vary smoothly across the isotropic-nematic transition, without the expected first-order discontinuity. To investigate this smooth variation, we measure the strain as a function of temperature over a range of applied stress, for elastomers cross-linked in the nematic and isotropic phases, and analyze the results...
